The Orlesian occupation of Ferelden lasted almost a century, marking a dark period in Thedas.
Vigil's Keep was the first fortress to fall. Twenty years after the invasion began there, Orlais finally sacked the city of Denerim, claiming victory and drove the king into hiding. Though routed, the king now known as "Brandel the Defeated" continued to rebel against the Orlesians... but his efforts have proven inefficient, as most nobles believe that Ferelden is truly lost.
August has just ended and the cold and rain are starting to show, on-and-off, in the southern parts of the continent. The northern half is experiencing only minor changes.

NOV. 24th Happy belated first month anniversary to us! A few things to be noted. We are currently taking nominations for our first ever site spotlights. The nomination period will be over by the 30th, so feel free to take your time as new members and threads roll in. Just don't forget about them. Secondly, the advertising contest is still going strong, but it slated to wrap up at the end of the month. If you want to earn some extra gold and help promote the site, best to get on that now, while the rewards are higher than usual. Thirdly, the site lottery is still going, and the drawing period will be over Friday. Lastly, we should be getting that multiplayer thread soon. Sorry it's been delayed so long--as you can imagine, I've been busy with single player for Inquisition. Once I'm done, I'll put up the threads and we can hopefully get some games going.
OCT. 19th We're kicking off the site's grand opening with quite a few things to do (besides apply and join, of course ;D). We have an advertising contest going on right now, which will earn new members a ton of gold. You even get ten gold just for advertising for us once. Aside from that, our first ever site lottery is underway, with double the traditional jackpot payout. There might even be a few other things that we've forgotten to mention, but we're sure you can figure those out on your own. ;D As a final note, with DAI's release date being less than a month out (in North America), we're strongly considering organizing multiplayer across the various platforms so IWV members can play together. If that sounds like something that might interest you, keep your eyes peeled for the next little while.

[attr="class","minifield2"]Relatively long brown hair and amber eyes, nothing particularly remarkable.
[attr="class","minifield2"]He is taller than most and of a slim build with little muscle of any sort.
[attr="class","infoc"]He looks to be a little younger than he is only by a few years, most would place him at around 21 to 22. His skin is relatively pale largely due to a tendency to wear clothes covering as much exposed skin as possible and endless hours spent within the circle tower, by now he is fairly certain he would just instantly burn from exposure to sunlight. He has a single scarred bite-mark between his shoulder-blades, something that was rarely visible, albeit mostly because he had few low backed tops and doesn't go topless for aforementioned reasons.

[attr="class","minihead2"]Five Negative Traits
[attr="class","minifield2"]
Capable of avoiding getting himself killed.
Outgoing.
He finds himself amusing, even if no-one else does.
Hard to offend.
Optimistic.
[attr="class","minifield2"]
Tends not to get on well with others.
Untrustworthy.
Unmotivated.
Egotistic.
Obsequious when he thinks there is something to gain.
[attr="class","infoc"] Depending largely upon his mood and who exactly he is talking to he tends to either be charming in a rather smug and self-satisfied manner, or far more likely, a sarcastic and argumentative bother who is far too fond of picking at the flaws and faults of others whilst entirely ignoring his own. He could be said that he is a good person deep down, but considering the lack of proof for this, it's doubtful that he is. He takes far too much pleasure from arguing with others, or verbally sparring as he would call it.
He tends to get into more than his fair share of trouble, mostly due to his attempts at "acquiring" some possessions. Most of which are of little to no value, it is little more than a hobby of his to see what he can manage to gain without having it taken away from him or without the pile of utter rubbish in his quarters tipping over.
He tends to be attacked by his allies rather more frequently than by whatever they should be fighting, but this may well be because he often uses mocking both as a sign of affection and dislike which leads to misunderstandings far more often than he would admit.
[attr="class","infoh"]Background
[attr="class","infoc"] Malek had spent the short portion of his life that didn't involve magic mostly complaining over the lack of any prospect of excitement beyond day to day life in a small settlement. Being shipped off to the circle wasn't quite what he'd had in mind. To this day he does still find it somewhat peculiar that to his knowledge his parents sent him to them before he had actually manifested any signs of magic that he knew of. Maybe they just knew something that he didn't?
whilst he quite quickly proved that he was by no means stupid and was perfectly capable of learning he seemed to try to avoid doing so anyway. Paying only the barest attention that was needed to continue to progress once he had passed his harrowing. After all he had proven that he was capable of resisting possession, what more did he need to do? Most of his efforts turned towards trying to find any reason he could that would require him leaving the tower even for a short time or to attempting to get his hands on whatever ludicrous item he had decided that time that he simply must have. Mostly this would be achieved by the fact that he had utterly no ambitions to run from the circle, after all being an apostate seemed to be far more work than the increase in freedom was worth. Instead he would show a surprising amount of eagerness to try to go on any sort of trip that required a mage no matter how utterly tedious the task was likely to be. After all what else was there to do really other than pestering the other mages or the templars to actually do something of interest, not that doing so usually helped matters in the slightest shockingly.
For the most part now Malek does little other than waste his time, now and again putting in the slight effort needed to actually learn new skills that could be deemed to be of use. He isn't actually opposed to using his skills when needed, as long as there is actually some way that he could profit through it or even manage to get out of the tower for a while. He has few friends among the mages, after all there is only so long that you can spend around the same people before either forming a strong bond or beginning to despise them, Malek is oddly talented at encouraging the latter through an utter lack of interest in the feelings of others for the most part and a knack for annoying people at the worst times.

[attr="class","content1"] We've found a few issues that need to be touched up before you can be accepted. Once you have fixed the issues specified below, inform the staff member who pended you to re-evaluate your application (through PM would be best).
You mention he leaves to acquire items. What kind are they artifacts for the Chantry or Circle themselves, or just artifacts of value in general? It's very vague and needs better explanation.
In the same vein, he's allowed outside the tower despite the fact he seems to be a below average member of the circle. Thus far we've yet to see mages that haven't proven themselves loyal allowed outside the tower, and while circles do vary, I suspect someone who's done little to contribute or prove his loyalty would be allowed out very often – and even then, I expect they're still watched for a number of years for any signs of desiring to break out.
Perhaps he'd be allowed out with a constant guard, but even then only if they have the templar to spare to send with him. This does also matters on what he's apparently going after, as I doubt they'd spare someone unless it was something worth their attention.

[attr="class","content1"] Take two because Dani is a dumbass and always forgets things when she pends (which is my fault and not yours, it should have been in my other post). These are small things but I do gotta note em.
Right so another quick thing for history – we do have on the application guidelines that histories have to be about three paragraphs long or more – I expect two particularly large paragraphs would also pass, but yours are fairly average-to-small so we're going to have to ask for another.
Also, circle mages are considered enforcer archetypes, as they're used as soldiers in most wars, whether they want to or not – they're sworn to serve the country their circle belongs to.
(I apologize for having to ask you to edit again, it's always a disaster when I pend people)

[attr="class","content1"] We regret to inform you that your character has been rejected due to assorted reasons. If you wish to try to apply again, please do so with another character. This character's information will be archived if you wish to get their information, but you will not be allowed to apply as them again.
It's all pretty generic: No advertising other sites. No spamming. Don't heavily discuss or link to other RP sites. Don't bring in drama. Don't pester people. Don't impersonate other members. And, do not mention any Chantry board updates.
