The city is the current named capital, as dictated by Orlais, and has undergone great changes since it was occupied. Once just a small fishing port, the city is now bursting at the seams with all manner of imports and exports, the town rapidly becoming a city in its own right, even to the point of recently earning its own need for an elven alienage. A good number of the noble Orlesian occupants reside here, some the most influential and wealthy that are occupying Fereden.

The ancestral home of the Couslands and one of only two Teyrnirs left in Ferelden. Originally an outpost of the Amaranthine Bannorn, it was ruled by the Elstan family, before Bann Conobar was allegedly murdered by his wife, Flemeth. Conobar's captain of the guard, Sarim Cousland, acquired land and title, which the Cousland family has controlled ever since.

The central lowland region in Ferelden, surrounded by the Imperian Highway from all sides. It forms the backbone of Ferelden in terms of both agriculture and population. The Bannorn possesses the largest number of freeholders in Ferelden, many of whom belong to banns. A number of relatively minor lords also reside in the Bannorn and, as a group, they represent a powerful political force as well as combined military strength.

This towering range of mountains that run from the banks of the Waking Sea to uncharted territories in the south forms Ferelden's natural western border with Orlais. The mountains are considered highly inhospitable, and yet they house the native Avvar tribes, and, beneath the northern foothills, most of the continent's dwarves. The entrance to Orzammar lies in Gherlen's Pass, with its permanent shanty-town filled with traders and petitioners.

Board Description

Ferelden is a relatively temperate nation, historically populated by a simple militaristic culture that has only begun to "civilize" in the last few centuries. Cities are considered virtually anarchic by the standards of most outsiders, and much of the land as a whole is considered untamed and savage – and what with the Avvar barbarians in foothills of the Frostbacks, and the Chasind in the Kocari Wilds, those assumptions are only half wrong, at best.
