[attr="class","infoh"]Detailed Information [attr="class","infoc"] Val Royeaux has always been the home of Kayleth Desrochers, though she ventured away at times she was never gone long. Involvement in the Chantry was a matter of pragmatism by her family, that is to say they were dirt poor and giving a child to the Chantry would mean one less mouth to feed. Like a very great many girls it was expected she would one day be a spiritual guide to some forgotten community in the middle of nowhere. The Maker however very clearly had something else in mind for the little girl with dark hair and bright eyes. Perhaps she was just aiming to please her new care givers or perhaps it was genuine devotion but Kayleth was an obedient and even enthusiastic charge. She sang her hymns, scrubbed floors and begged for petit alms without complaint. It all went along with a fire in her spirit, one that caught the attention of the powers that be and altered her fate. She would not be a sister, she would train to be a Templar. Kayleth trained to be a Templar and showed promise from the earliest point. She never required a lesson twice, she was vigilante and aware. Some may have found it frustrating that a commonborn girl had the audacity to defeat a noble born boy in a contest of arms. After all the Chantry was an organisation of powerful women, the Templar Order was supposed to be the boys branch. But the faithful take what the Maker sends. Kayleth took her vows and became a Templar proper, stationed at the White Spire. Along with all the others that took her vows at the same period she started receiving lyrium and before long she was addicted to it. She was capable, vigilante, devout and most importantly, under control. The woman with dark hair and bright eyes took to her duties as a fully fledged Templar well, be it watching over the White Spire Magi or hunting down an Apostate, even during her occasional confrontation with a Blood Mage or a Demon brought through from the Fade. To her peers she was pleasant and polite, approachable and friendly. To her Mage charges she was a different matter entirely. She never smiled in the presence of the Magi, even when wearing her helmet she would avoid it for risk that her eyes would give it away. She was never cruel or unfair but she was tough, stern and uncompromising. She was ruthless in her pursuit of Apostates of Magi that dared to flee the Circle. She did not hold grudges against those that would flee or never knew the embrace of a Circle. Kayleth never believed brutal aggression was effective, when an Apostate would yield she would accept it gracefully. It was her belief that if Magi feared the Templars fully, they would fight for their lives to resist but if they did not believe their lives were in danger they would be more amicable. Kayleth was once described as like a firestorm, though a more astute mind countered it with a much more correct analogy, her fervor was not fire but ice. She was the unyielding glacier. Indomitable in the face of the Blood Mage or Demon, humble in her piety of the Maker and dedicated to the path she walks. That being said however she is still Orlesian and ambitious to suit, Kayleth has limited capability to serve the Maker as a rank member of the Templar Order. Knight-Commander of Val Royeaux however would provide a very great means to serve. |
