[attr="class","infoc"]Short and stocky are the words most often used to describe Gage, as he is considered short even amongst the dwarven race. He has worked hard to make up for this and is extremely muscular to the point where his width is starting to rival his height. However, his legs aren't as large as his arms, giving him an unusual upside-down triangle look.
He works hard to maintain his strong figure, and the time he puts in to smithing helps to keep his arms bulky and strong. Gage takes great pride in showing off his arms to others as it helps to create an intimidating presence around him. His hands in particular are not only large in size but also scarred from the fire in the pit. Burns run up his forearms, and having spent years testing blades the hints of cuts long since past are scattered along his fingertips.
[attr="class","infoh"]Personality [attr="class","minihead2"]Five Positive Traits | [attr="class","minihead2"]Five Negative Traits | [attr="class","minifield2"]Hardworking, determined, direct, proud, trustworthy | [attr="class","minifield2"]Rude, aggressive, unforgiving, prejudiced, stubborn |
[attr="class","infoc"]As you may expect for a dwarf born in Orzammar, Gage is prejudiced against those on the surface. They don't care about the daily battles the dwarves fight with the Darkspawn in the Deep Roads, and so he has no time or patient for them. The only people who seem to care are the Grey Wardens and for them he has all the time in the world for. He is proud to call himself a smith of Orzammar and friend to the Grey Wardens.
Though he is extremely trusted to carry out a good job as a smith, spending a life tending blades has hardened Gage somewhat. If someone questions the quality of his work he has been known to demonstrate just how good the blade is. However, it is very rarely that people will question his work as he takes great pride in it. If it is not perfect he will work at it until it is, and is very determined to not let customers walk away with below par goods.
Given the amount of backstabbing and betrayal in Orzammar, Gage considers himself one of the few dwarves you can really trust with a secret. That said, if his trust is broken he is unforgiving and you cannot gain it back. Betrayal in Orzammar is a crime that brings a heavy punishment, as far as Gage is concerned, and those guilty may as well be sent to the Deep Roads.
The small dwarf is very direct and to the point when speaking, having little patience for those who dance around an issue. If he wants to say something, he will say it. However, while he thinks he is simply being direct others see it as rude and will tell him such. Given that he is a proud man, this can often end in a fight as Gage's aggressive nature comes through. He isn't a bad guy, just one who struggles to understand tact and patience and so will lash out.
[attr="class","infoh"]Background
[attr="class","infoc"]Gage was the only child to the smith Narec and Vanka Tollar. They considered themselves lucky to even have a child in the first place, as the presence of the darkspawn in the Deep Roads makes conceiving difficult. They lived a mediocre life, not at the bottom of the heap but also so far from the top they could not see it. They simply did not stand out, which gave Gage one of the best chances of surviving in the ruthless city of Orzammar.
Gage would often spend days in his father's shop, watching him work and learning the tricks of the trade. Once he was old enough he began to assist him, sourcing the best materials for the blades and helping to build the business up. As he worked he began to gain weight, his muscles becoming larger as time went by. To further this he began to train with a friend. The two would spar in the back of Tollar's Smith, working to become better warriors and fighters should they find themselves in the Deep Roads. When not learning the trade or sparring, the two would be lifting whatever weights they could or running around Orzammar to build up their physiques.
Then one day his friend no longer came. For days Gage tried to get answers, only to discover he had gone to the surface and become lost to the stone. The news was hard to take, especially as it seemed that his friend had not been exiled. No, he had voluntarily left Orzammar. This betrayal, to both their city and to him, make Gage particularly unforgiving to the few visitors from the surface they had. They were not worthy of his time, as far as he could see, and they had no caste or place in Orzammar.
Gage worked alongside his father in the smithing shop. Yet competition in Orzammar was tough. More and more smiths cropped up, eager to fight it out for the best position, and suddenly Gage understood why his friend had gone to the surface. For months Gage toyed with the decision of leaving and, after having a very frank discussion with his father, he decided to head to the surface to work and live. He felt a traitor to his people with every step he took, but in order to survive he had to do it. When he first stepped outside he thought he was already dead. The sun was so bright and there was no ceiling. Gage only hoped his weight would keep him on the land.
Now Gage travels around Ferelden, finding the best materials to create weapons and trying to come to terms with the fact he has become lost to the stone, just like his friend. He has no desire to find his friend, as the betrayal still feels fresh to him. Instead he is quite content on his own, selling his wares.

| [attr="class","head1"]Pending! [attr="class","head2"]Guide me through the blackest nights [attr="class","content1"] We've found a few issues that need to be touched up before you can be accepted. Once you have fixed the issues specified below, inform the staff member who pended you to re-evaluate your application (through PM would be best).
Gage looks pretty solid, I only have two tiny things to suggest and then we can get you accepted and rping.
First, I would like to see his frank nature, rudeness and aggression portrayed in his personality. Just a quick little paragraph since they're mentioned in his strengths and weaknesses and not his extended persona.
Second is more of a suggestion. Having Gage be an Orzammar dwarf might limit roleplaying opportunities since he's going to be spending his time underground and we have no other dwarves yet. And even if we get them, they'll be the only people other than the Grey Wardens that you'll have an opportunity to play with, other than the very odd surfacer. If that isn't an issue for you, then you can ignore me and I can just toss Avery at him a lot.
Overall, very nice. Lemme know when you've made the changes.

| [attr="class","head1"]Accepted! [attr="class","head2"]And nothing that He has wrought shall be lost [attr="class","content1"] Welcome to the site! The first thing you need to do is send a private message to the staff member who has accepted you with the items and talents you'd like from your character's archetype, as well as their total cost in gold. This way the admin can add said amount to your account so you can go about purchasing your starter kit. After that, it would be a good idea to list yourself on the member information thread. For those who don't have/haven't looked into getting an image, you may also want to look into this thread, as well. Good luck and have fun on IWV! |
